Profile of Nanjing Brain Hospital

Nanjing Brain Hospital, the first national mental health care facility founded in 1947 in China, was qualified as the only one of neuro-psychiatric health facility of “ the Hospitals of Top grade in first class”. There are 650 beds for in-patients and 935 working staff in the Hospital with 11 administrative offices and 18 clinical departments ( 3 of them are provincial important ones ) and 8 laboratories. The hospital has been equipped with γ-knife, DSA, MRI, CT, computerized navigation operation system. It annually accepts 220,000 out patients and 6,000 in-patients for brain vessel illness and mental problems coming from Nanjing City and surrounding locations. It also provides mental health care services for those who come nationally wide. There are couples of affiliated research institutes in the hospital. The are: Neuropsychiatry research institute, The Child mental health research center for WHO, Provincial family plan research institute, Brain vessel disease research institute and Crisis intervention center. The hospital also has the teaching and research labs of neurology, psychiatry, and clinical psychology for Nanjing Medical University. The hospital organizes the publications for three medical journals (Clinical neurology, clinical Neuro-surgery and Medical Psychiatry) that are published nationally wide. The hospital also takes the task of medical care, rehabilitation, prevention and teaching&research in the fields of neurology and psychiatry for Jiang Su Province. As the base of national training centers for neurology and psychiatry, the hospital offers mental health care programs for undergraduate medical student in Nanjing Medical University. The hospital now is playing an important role in the work of the national psychiatric academy. It has been extolled as The Cradle of Psychiatrists in China and successfully trained lots of specialists for National Health Ministry.
